I see these at the gun shows and gun shops all the time......they should be easy to locate locally.

I have the 22LR and I'm happy with it. There is very little to hold on to even in 22LR....I'd like to give 22WMR a try.....I bet it has a lot more recoil....

I'm skeptical of the energy levels going up much....these are very short barreled....may not get to produce much more velocity...just louder bang and lots of flash.

I'll look into it....see what I can find. Might be a real smart move stepping up to the 22 mag if there is more performance....

OK - NAA has a ton of ballistics data on their site:

http://www.naaminis.com/naaveloc.html

I have to pick a gun....so, I'm going with the 1 1/8" barrel length....to keep this gun as small as possible...as i feel that is the function it serves....VERY deep cover gun. BTW - It looks to be minimal ballistic advantage going to 1 5/8"....I'd buy the shortest possible at 1.125"

I looked at the tables to find the top performance in the 40 grain class of bullet.....a heavier bullet is the best move in a short barrel....it maximixes the time in barrel....thus maximizing realized pressures.....time and pressure are of short supply in theses ultra short barrels....it also give maximum penetration....

22WMR = Winchester Super X 40 grain @ 880 mean FPS. = I calculate 69 ft-lbs

22LR = American Eagle 40 grain @ 750 mean FPS. = I calculate 50 ft-lbs

So, on a percentage basis....the 22 Mag has nearly 40% more energy.....but in reality....they are both pretty low in power. The mag offers about 20% more momentum...thus at least 20% more recoil (not including extra powder burn factor).....should result in perhaps 10% - 20% more penetration......

These guns are good for the sound and the terror of being shot.....a person shot will end up in a hospital or dead.....given enough time....but not impressive knockdown power.....a shot to the brain/spine/central nervous system will be lights out right on the spot (ever seen a cow shot in the brain with a 22LR.....legs fold and it ends up in a piled up heap in about 1 second)......Bobby Kennedy was killed with a 22LR....possibly even a 22 Short.... Also, a shot in the heart can result in a a quick death....

I guess if i were buying brand new today......I'd go for the 22 Mag that they also sell with a 22LR conversion cylinder.....looks to be ablut $50 more when purchased together.....you could also get the 22 Mag and buy the conversion cyl later from NAA.

I owned and sold the folding grip handle.....did not like the size/thickness.

I currently have the gun in the NAA "looks like a wallet" - heavy leather....has a hole for your finger.....the BATFE have said these are a no go....they disguise the gun too much.....NAA no longer makes/sells these....but you can find them on a rare basis...grab one if you see one.....

Good Luck!

PS.... to calculate energy when you know bullet weight (grains) and velocity (ft/sec)...... energy = (mass x vel x vel) / 450,000 .....this will be energy in ft-lbs.

Thanks for the info. I am going to a gunshow here in Columbus this weekend, hopefully I can find something there. I plan on getting the magnum and either getting the 22lr conversion with it or buying it later on.

If you ever wanted the wallet holster....the are specific to the 22Mag and 22LR....the cut out for cylinder rotation is larger for the 22 Mag.....

They are really neat....try to get the holster......

I got my 22LR short-barrel holster grip at Sportsman's Warehouse. I think I paid $189 about a year ago.

They have sinced changed the holster grip to make it smaller, but I don't like it -- it doesn't contain the firearm as well, and the shape is not well suited for the watch pocket in my jeans.

I like it with my folding grip. I don't like the newer holster grip. My grip is big and clunky when opened, but I have big hands, so it feels more sure in my grip. I removed the belt clip so that it would slide into my pocket more easily. The "triangular" shape makes it fit perfectly in my watch pocket just out of sight, yet easy to retrieve. If you live in a region that permits open carry, it will clip onto your belt without anyone even thinking it might be a firearm. People just assume it is a phone.

Here is the OPERATIONAL shoot while in the holster I'm talking about.....

Better get one while they last.

This is the newest folding grip....i did not like the older one....I'll look for the older design but this is the new one:http://www.cabelas.com/link-12/produ...3216050a.shtml

Look down this page....the pink grip is what i remember the old folding grip looking like (mine was in black...not pink....):http://www.ssrsi.org/Onsite/NAA.htm

It looks like NAA still may offer the old folding design.....look at the bottom of this page:http://www.naaminis.com/lrifle.html

If your are going with the 22 mag version try out the CCI .22 mag Maxi Mag TNT rounds. I really like them out of the one I have. I also have the folding grip for it and it makes the gun much easier to shoot.

Well, I couldnt wait until saturday for the gun show. I went to my local gun shop (vance's shooter supply in columbus, great store), and they had the 22lr and 22magnum in stock. $20 price difference.

I bought the magnum for $220. I figured I can get the 22lr conversion cylinder some other time if I want it.

I took it to the range, and man does it have some kick to it. I used remington 40gr and cci maxi mag 30 gr rounds. Sure did have some nice kick to it.
